How Much can you make a year?

I read somewhere that you can make up to 200 gallons of moonshine for "Personal Use" every year. I have been reading you can run it in the older cars instead of gas. Is this true. I know the car will run, but how much moonshine can you make a year legally. Our old Ford Tractor is a gas eater and we need something else.

  1. First the guy above is thinking of diesel fuel. gasoline is not dyed.

I am not sure how many gallons are legal but if your burning it in your tractor and NOT selling it. Then they would be hard pressed to know how much you make.

Also you will need to make a few changes to your tractor also.

First you need to install larger jets in your carburetor. You also need to install stainless fuel lines to prevent rust. Line the tank to prevent rust (alcohol holds water molecules).

  2. The eeeewoo Girl Cubana has it right .I never thought of it so scientifically though.I think you can get buy on half and half without changes. It worked for us till we found out what else we could use it for.

    P.S. where are you from/Cub

  3. It is possible to convert a gas engine to run on straight alcohol. I've built a few motors to do that. You must rebuild your carb or find another to rebuild. Alcohol will clean everything and you'll get a bunch of junk runnin in your motor. Regular black rubber gas lines will work no need to get stainless steel one.  The jets in the carb have to be inlarged by 40%. If that is too rich drop down the jets down to 35%.alcohol is more dense than gas so you will have to adjust your float or it will cut off your fuel supply. You can just bend the linkage but be carefull not to break it, I used washer to weigh mine down. Next you need to alter your timeing the optimum timeing is 24 degrees before top dead center your motor is already set at 0 degrees so you are advanceing the timeing. It may not require that much but is pretty close. Also you need to run a hotter spark plug because alcohol doesn't ignite as hot as gas. Usually have to go up 2 heat ranges to get the best ignition. Watch your plugs after you run it for a while to make sure they are not running to hot. If your good with your hands it's not to hard but does take time. Make sure you take pics of the carb and where all the linkages go before you take it off makes it a lot easier to put back together.

  4. I how no idea how much alcohol you can make legally a year. But, by the time and money you spend making a still, buying corn, sugar and fuel for the still, and the fact that your neighbors might not be thrilled by the smell, then you add in that if you don't know what your doing the still could explode. It's likely you would be better off just buy gas. You can save money on gas for a tractor by buying gas that is not taxed (tractors don't use the road and don't have to use Hwy taxed gas).

Just don't get caught with this red died gas in a car, the dept. AG will make you very unhappy.

Check with your local rural co-op.
