  1. £200 for basic carpets but if you want to feel the shag beneath your feet well thats going to be expensive.

  2. First you will have to decide what quality of carpet you want.

  3. Medium quality carpeting will cost around £20 per square metre fitted, to which you will need to add the underlay and grippers that go around the edge. Measure your floors and work out the cost. Next advice is to go to a local carpet supplier as they have their own fitters and will give you a better service at the selection stage. They have more to lose if they give bad service. Get at least 3 quotes. Avoid CARPET RIGHT and other big boys as they are the rip off merchants. They also sub-contract the actual fitting.

  4. We just ordered carpet for our first house.

We ordered it from Lowe's during the $199 entire-house installation. We got what I call "modern shag", probably medium quality, with a premium carpet pad. Most of our tack strip was intact. I'd estimate we're carpeting around 1,000 sq. ft. (since it's an 1800 sq. ft. house but there is hardwood). The cost for everything is right around $3,500.

I would recommend a premium carpet pad. It's not that much more, and besides comfort, it has increased allergan protection, etc.

  5. we paid somewhere around 2500 for carpet for 1000 square feet...this was the pad and installation...this was also for a great quality carpet...go look at lowes and home depot try to do it when they are having a special on the installation..because we saved 1500 because home depot was having a 99 installation sale...
