How Muslim is Turkey?

Question

I'm told that Turkey is Muslim in much the same way Europe and America is Christian. If asked what religion they follow, most Turks would say they followed Islam, but the majority of Turks don't actually follow Islam dedicatedly and the whole state has complete religious freedom.

We see Islam in a Turkish way, that does not mean we are more or less then other Muslim nations.

If you ask me its place is between God and person, and most of the Turks see it that way....

Answerer Kimon seems to know it all but he does not know that Islamic people getting MORE Islamic and Liberals getting more LIBERAL, today you can see a woman with head scarve next to a woman who wears only bikini, at least in where I live...

I’ve been travelling to Istanbul the past 5 years at least 2-3 times every year. Last time I was there a month ago...

There were always women wearing the head scarf all over but they were just a small minority. However, the last time I was there I noticed that more than one in two women was wearing the scarf. I pointed that out to a Turkish female friend of mine and she agreed that Islam is getting stronger day after day in Turkey.

It is quite upsetting....

turkey is a muslim country, and majority of people in turkey are muslim, but i just wanted to point out, because of politics, omen with a headscarf arent allowed to go to school, find a job in most places, and visit alot of monuments.

pretty ironic isn't it, since turkey is majority muslim

ur correct!!! most people say they're muslim, but they dont actually follow everything that the kuran says. .. the reason why more and more people are wearing scarfs in turkey is because of politics .. it has nothing to do with the religion
