How Often Do Parrots Get Mites?

Question

I am thinking about getting a parrotlet but i am wondering if they can get mites often.this could be very harmful to my little sisters so i need to find out before i get one. please answer.

I've kept birds for years and never had a case of mites.  The important thing to do is keep everything very clean, yearly vet checks, and no contact with other birds that have not gone thru a 30 day quarantine.  The cage must be cleaned daily, clean bath water must be available often if not daily and needs to be changed as soon as it gets dirty.  If the bird doesn't like to bathe itself it will need to be misted with water a few times a week.
