Back in my day, we ......??

I am only in my mid-20's and I am forever saying it or muttering it under my breath. Back in my day, we didn't have nothing like my kids have, especially in the toy range.

Yes, it's true I grew up under a rock, somewhere.

  1. I am 34 years old and I when I re-married and had my tubes untied to have children with my 2nd husband we had to buy everything new again. And even at my "young" age I still find myself saying "when I had my oldest, cots were like.... or similar".

Time goes by so very quickly and things change so fast!

No wonder I am starting to get some grey hairs.

  2. You must have been bred under a rock.  I have just replied to your other question and I feel you have a problem with children.

Loosen up and let children be children and teenagers be teenagers.

Have you never been there yourself?  The toy range is a stupid comment.  If you don't want your kids to have toys then don't take them shopping with you so they won't see it.

You're bored and blame the little kiddies.  Please see a GP.

  3. I agree! How far has technology come these days! I do however think that we have better imaginations then some kids today, we made play using different toys and materials we could find. Today the children don't need the original thought to prompt them to play. I also think there is too much popular culture!

Still i would like to experience growing up today! lol i am 26yr and keep saying back when i was...lol

  4. every so often i say "back in the day" but never "back in my day"

  5. Oh hon, I am in my mid-40s!  My kids never tire of hearing my stories from back in the day.... we didn't have air conditioning, we didn't use seat belts (That one they think is cool), we had to walk every where, no tv remotes, no cordless phones, no cell phones, etc.

They think some are hilarious.  I used to love to sit while my mom did laundry and hear HER stories.  I like to think that someday my kids will remember some and pass them on to their kids.

  6. lol im only 19 and i already say that esp with the toys and gas prices

  7. My kids are 30 and 36 and I am still telling things from back in my day. No, you didn't grow up under a rock. It is part of the "Mother" thing.

  8. I think they called that rock Respect, which we were taught when we were younger. Alot aren't taught that anymore (not all just alot it seems)

And No I refuse to say back in my day or back in the days, I always swore I wouldn't lol, but instead when in discussion usually there's another adult around my age or older, so I say - "Do you remember when......." lol

I miss those Hypercolour shirts (you know the ones that changes colours with body heat) loooved them.

Everything now is too comerialised, like we were happy to get a new pink bike for christmas, now it's all about brands etc. Sad, I am so gald I grew up when I did, Just wish my kids could have as well. much better times, and alot safer back then too.

If all these brands and stuff and technology and everything is so d**n great now, why is crime worse?

Now where did that rock go, think I wanna crawl back under it again. lol

  9. I am 33 going on 34 and i say it all the time!!! WE didnt have car seats! We DID not wear bicycle helmets, we went to schools that had lead paint, we had trick or treat after dark, we had ATARI...not everyone though, we had 4 channels 5 if you were lucky and it wasnt raining ( i lived in the country..NO CABLE)  NO ONE had ADHD/ADD and we still got paddled in the hallways at school ! There wasnt any assualt charges brought on by ANYONE when a fight broke out in the cafeteria at school, so YES, i say it all the time....

  10. "When I was your age".. is what I use..

  11. Nearly everyday it makes the younger generation grateful for what they've got as i believe at the moment we are raising a generation of spoiled brats who demand everything and get everything.

I'm not tight with my daughter but she only gets special gifts for christmas and birthday's. In between she'll get books and small gifts and those are rewards for been a good girl.

Most people i know are now struggling what to get the kids for christmas and their not even 7 yet. With t.v's in the bedrooms with all the mod cons we need to start getting our kids outside in all weathers just like we did.

You did not grow under a rock but i bet you remember all the good times you played out with your friends and was only sent to your room when it was either bed time or you had been naughty.

  12. I say it all the time but probably not as much as you, but I am not that old :)

  13. I grew up in some of the largest cities in the world, and yet somehow I was right there under that rock with you Charli!

I just gave my daughter that lecture last night, driving back from picking her up from summer camp, and she is *so* tired and the sun has her sleepy from whitewater rafting, she *must* sleep in...I love her but she's a little diva at times (and she goes to camp to perhaps not be so diva-ish! ha. not working. )

So, I gave her the "I didn't get to go to camp until I was twelve, when I WAS YOUR AGE..." bit and I think "oh, my, I have turned into my 80 year old grandmother, all by age 32".

Going off to have my hair 'blued' now,

I'll be sure to drive about 20 mph, and not use a turn signal :)

  14. Its actually true - inmy day which by the way is mine and not theirs (the childrens) we actually did not have sony play stations or games or the clothing or the other toys. In fact still some children who were born in the 60s didnot have electricity - I dont think that the children of today have absolutely no idea that they are very very fortunate.

  15. i must think im super young,,,,, cos i promise you ive never said that once!,,lol

if i said that id feel so old,, so ill continue to not say it, xxxxxxxxx
