How Often Should I Give My Hamster Vitamins?

I just got a new Syrian hamster. Her name is Rosie and she is eight weeks old. I got some vitamins to put in her food, but I don't know how often I should put them in her food. How often should I put the vitamins in Rosie's food?

You can get liquid vitamins and place them in her water bottle and then when you replace the water, just add more vitamins. The other thing you can do is use the powder vitamin called benebac and put that on her food everyday. You can also give them shredded red cabbage everyday and place the benebac on that.

The only times I have used vitamins is when I have had a sick hammie.  I wouldn't really recommend it.  If you insist on using them, check on the bottle and see what the directions for use are...and use them sparingly!

What type of vitamins have you got for mixing with food? If it is drops (liquid form) which is the most common type sold at pet shops, then it is better to put in your hamster's water bottle mixed with water.

You can add 5 drops to half a bottle of a standard size hamster water bottle. The reason I say half a bottle is that you have to change your hamster's water every two days and so it is better to have half bottle of water and adjust accordingly rather than putting drops in a full bottle of water, half of which might be thrown out every 3rd day.

Do not put a lot of vitamins in her food or water since the standard commercial hamster food mix already has vitamins in it and if she eats properly, there is no need for extra vitamins. If you anyway feel like giving her extra vitamins, make a schedule of giving her vitamin drops in her water every alternative week (i.e. one week vitamins, 2nd week no vitamins and so on)

You shouldn't. If her food is a nutritionally complete one and she is getting fresh veggies daily (and fruits once or twice a week), she is getting all the vitamins she needs and extra vitamins are unnecessary. It IS possible to overdose on some vitamins. And please /do not/ put vitamins in ANY animal's water as the other answerer suggests.

The liquid vitamins you should put in every time she finishes her water bottle if she drinks slowly and every other time if she drinks fast.
