My son at birth was 7.12 lbs, and is now about 12lbs at six weeks. I feed him whenever he gets hungry, and he seems to go though spurts where eats every hour for a couple of hours, then doesn't eat for 3 or 4 hours, Is this common? Should I try to feed him every 2 hours or just continue feeding him whenever he gets hungry?

  1. Feed him when he is hungry

  2. Whenever he gets hungry.  As long as he is getting enough throughout the day it doesn't matter how regular it is.

  3. yep thats normal. At that age they are not really on a routine of when they get hungry. I have only ever feed my daughter when she is hungry and she has growen fine putting on alot of weight. when hes hungry he will ask for it

  4. Continue feeding him when he gets hungry. It is TOTALLY normal-- especially at such a young age to be hungry often. He might be going through a growth spurt as well. Think about it-- We don't always eat at scheduled times. I know I snack throughout the day. Try to think of it that way. :)

  5. Just feed when hes hungry, i demand fed both of  my sons and they put on weight beautifully, i'll do the same when my next one comes along (in about 12 weeks time)!. i think that a lot of people assume that routine starts straight away with feeding but it really doesnt!

  6. A baby will eat when they are hungry....

when you write that he eats for every couple of hours for a couple of hours....this is quite amazing! a feed should not take c aouple of hours...you should see if he is actually attaching properly....because perhaps he is isnt(you should be able to feel if he is sucking and properly attached...otherwise you are wearing him and yourslef out, as there wont be any type of break when he does have a feed like this.

Proper attachment for feeding will enable him to feed so that he will feel full! Dont be stuck to what some people call routine feeding...your baby will tell you when he needs food...and mothers milk is best...

im sorry, you didnt actually mention whether you breast fed or not...if not, then you couldnt be feeding him for a ocuple of hours, could you???

  7. no he is old enough to tell you when he is hungry, dont try to force it...he seems to be gaining weight just fine:)
