Question:

How Old is Boxer Pup??

My manager found a stray boxer pup with a collar and leash still attached. He was skin and bones and we figured that he had been tied up and not properly taken care of. I could count his ribs and each vertabre on his spine & I would feel bad petting him b/c he was so thin. No one claimed him after a week, so I adopted him and named him Rocky, (I know it's not original), after Rocky Balboa.

I guessed that he's around 7 months, he's 22" from the ground to his shoulder, but still underweight. can anyone tell me if I'm accurate?

  1. Just like they tell the age of horses, the teeth are the key to an accurate guess of a dog (or cat).  Your vet can confirm your guess.

You should take him to the vet's, as if he was neglected, as you suspect, he definitely needs Rabies, and DHPP vaccines.  Don't let the vet talk you into a Distemper combination that contains Corona virus, as that particular disease has only been seen in pups under 8 weeks of age.

    He also probably needs wormed.

Young Boxers don't usually carry a lot of weight, so if he'd been running for a day or two, he would look emaciated.

The height is about correct for a Boxer of the age that you guessed.  The medium sized dogs usually make height a little after 6 months.

Be careful so as not to have him gain weight too fast, as a lean pup usually grows up to be a lean adult, and a lean adult lives a better, longer life.

Good for you for adopting him!

  2. check his teeth . any way i am sure that this site can help u

  3. there is no way of telling you how old the dog is without seeing it. you would need to check the growth of his teeth and general size. if your not sure take him to a vet. it would be a good idea to get him checked by a vet anyway because you want to make sure there is no medical reason for the weight loss. good luck and well done for adopting him.
