The PSG saga has received a lot of coverage following the takeover of the club by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Qatar-c2986 Investment Authority. Thanks to QIA, Paris Saint-Germain have invested heavily in the transfer market with one aim in mind, to win titles and dominate European football.
Paris Saint-Germain have some of the best players in the world in their ranks. The cash-laden club from Paris brought in the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Pastore-c18082 last season. Going a step further this season, Les Parisiens
have acquired the services of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ezequiel-Lavezzi-c13073, Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The question that arises from this entire situation is how this project will affect Ligue 1. The PSG project can be a boon for French football and at the same time it can be a curse for the Ligue 1.
The first and most obvious positive of this project is that it has given more exposure to the Ligue 1. People now know a lot more about French football. Ligue1 was not much famous outside France and there was very little coverage of the Ligue 1 abroad.
PSG has changed that altogether. Following the arrival of players like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zlatan-Ibrahimovic-c38029 at Parc des Princes, PSG has gotten more exposure for the Ligue 1 in last two years, then entire of the Ligue 1 in a decade.
Along with exposure, Paris Saint-Germain have gathered a huge number of fans in last couple of years. Some will cheer for them while other will root against them. In both cases, Ligue 1 will get more viewers.
One of the most important positives of Paris Saint-Germain project is that it has helped Ligue 1 land a contract with Al Jazeera television and more recently, with Ten Sports.
Al Jazeera and Ten Sports would have had less or no interest in covering Ligue 1 had it not been for the massive Qatari investment. These television contracts will help Ligue 1 enormously, as it seeks to rival La Liga and Premier League in the future.
Thanks to PSG project, several top brass players have moved to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 or
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749.
The arrival of Silva and Ibrahimovic in Paris has opened the doors of the Ligue 1 for other top stars. It will show them that Ligue 1 is a league on the rise and playing in the top division of French football could be an exciting experience.
Along with all those positives, there are few negative aspects of Paris Saint-Germain project as well.
PSG are the only team in Ligue 1 with such financial resources and that has disturbed the balance of the Ligue 1. Monaco, to some extent, can rival PSG financially but they are currently in the Ligue 2. Lack of competition in French football could result
in a one-team league with the rest of the teams fighting for the second place.
This could result in fans losing interest in Ligue 1 and French football could lose its charm in the end.
With clubs bringing in players from other league, the end result could be daunting for the Ligue 1. Home grown players will be ignored and that will affect the entire structure of France football.
However, positive usually overshadows negative, and let’s hope for a same case here.
