How Red Bull, Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren are pitted against each other in 2012 Formula 1 season?
Formula 1 2012 season cannot begin quick enough such is the anticipation from the fans and followers of the sport.
The season will be featuring a record breaking six world champion title holders on the grid at the same time. How do the teams stack up against other will be difficult to analyse but we will attempt to do just that.
The season will begin with Sebastian Vettel driving the Red Bull as favourites for the drivers’ championship title and the world title. Red Bull won back-to-back world titles in 2010 and 2011 thanks to a dominating car and a brilliant driver in Vettel ably
supported by Mark Webber driving alongside the German.
Although Red Bull will not have the advantage of a unique off-throttle blown diffuser design which apparently gave the Energy drink manufacturer backed team “wings.”
2012 will not be featuring the innovation as it has been banned by FIA as it was deemed to have unfair aerodynamic advantage over other vehicles because of the increased downforce it produced.
Many view this regulation change as a change of fortunes as well and believe that it will bring more teams into contention for the title rather than the one sided ordeal that was on display throughout 2011 barring a few Grands Prix.
Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Vettel are all world title holders and are speculated to be in serious contention for the title. The only driver that might find it hard to live up to the expectations
would be the Finn Raikkonen who has returned to the sport after a banishment of two years. His adaptability upon his return will be critical towards his chances of being a favourite for the season albeit test of arguably one of the most talented drivers in
the history of the sport.
Ferrari, Mercedes and McLaren have all got one thing similar for the upcoming season. They all want to come up with winning cars to potentially diffuse the dominance of the RB8 which is an evolution of RB7 the winner of the 2011 title.
McLaren were the only team to have come close to giving Red Bull a challenge in the previous season while Mercedes showed that they are on the track to good improvement for the upcoming season.
Ferrari cannot be disregarded such is the heritage of the team in the sport and with their president Luca di Montezemolo focussed on the Scarlet team’s reputation as the leaders of the grid, it can be assumed that they will be starting the season as contenders
even though they had a rather poor season in 2011 relative to their previous endeavours.
The season is going to be deciding if Vettel will be forever counted amongst the legends of the sport. It will decide if one of the greatest drivers of the sport Schumacher still can be considered the same force he once was. It will decide whether genius
can overcome all odds in Raikkonen’s case and it will also decide if Button has matured enough to be rated higher than Hamilton, who will have much to prove in order to dispel his own demons and criticism over the past year.
The season begins on March 18, 2012 with the Australian Grand Prix and is bound to shed some light to the excitement to follow.
