Question:

How Should I Set Up My Speaker System - Vauxall Corsa C???....Help Please :D?

I have a little Vauxall Corsa C 1.2 litre with a standard system apart from an up-graded sterio which is good.

I think the easiest way to go is to power 2 6x9's and a sub woofer by a big amp! which will sit next to the sub (in the boot) and obviously below the parcel shelf were the 6x9's will be mounted.

However i havent a clue what power the amp needs to be to power the two 6x9's and a sub? Do i just add all of the watts together and get an amp slightly over the 3 added together??

Neither do i know what size all the 3 should be to give the clearest sound? - which is my main aim!

I have also been advised to "cap off" the door speakers as these will try to handle the bass and interfier with the sound coming from the boot, and i have no idea how to do this safely or at all lol?

If anyone could help me i would really appreciate it!...Thanks :D

  1. if you want to power car speakers and a subwoofer then you're looking at buying a 5 channel amp (4 channels for each speaker and 1 for the subwoofer.) 5 channel amps are hard to find and expensive.

I suggest getting 2 amps. a 4 channel amp to run all of your interior car speakers. wattage is typically around 50-100 watts per channel depending on the amp. "capping off" the speakers can be done in several ways. the easiest would be to just set the high pass filter on the 4 channel amp whichi will cut off the low tones for the car speakers keeping them from playing them. another good way is to buy component speakers and use the crossover that comes with them which seperates which frequencies go to each speaker so they only play what they can handle.

next for a subwoofer if you want a high sound quality system and not too much thump then get one woofer (10" or 12") and put it in a sealed box (which will save you alot of trunk space). and buy a mono amp that matches the rms of the subwoofer. for ex if you buy a 200 watt RMS 4 ohm subwoofer, then for the best results you want to get a mono amp that puts out 200 watts RMS at 4 ohms. alternatively you can buy a 2 channel amp and bridge the 2 channels to get 200 watts, which might be a little cheaper.

the power of the amps you buy need to match the power of the speakers you buy. If you're still using the factory speakers why? they will sound much better with an amp, but they are cheap paper cone speakers that keep your system from sounding as crisp and clear as it could.
