  1. you don't have to be stick-thin..i mean you can't be hugely overweight but u have to have muscle on you.  if u don't have any muscle then u can't dance.  ur probably thin u just have muscle which is good - like i said u need long, lean muscles to be a dancer.  unless you're being partnered and your guy partner needs to lift you, you don't have to worry about weighing more than like 110 lbs.

  2. it doesn't matter it only matters that your healthy

just try to tone up but ballet class should do that for you!

  3. Weight isn't what counts.  If you want to be a ballerina then go for it.  If your not a size 0, don't worry about it.

One of the main things you DO have to think about though is strength.  You need to be tone and you need to have complete control over your movements.  When somebody lifts you it's not them that does all the work.  You have to be able to lift yourself at the same time.

I one saw a male student half the size of a female student lift the female up in the air and make it look easy.

So, anybody who tells you that your too big to be a ballerina is full of it.

Part of the reason all the ballerinas you see are thin is because average and/or bigger girls are being discouraged like this everyday so they pursue other types of dance or stop dancing at all.

If you want to be a ballerina, then you go for it!

  4. Don't let your weight or what people say keep you from pursuing

your dreams. Who knows, maybe you can open a ballet school for kids who are bigger than most ballerinas.

  5. Some girls in  my class that are heavier set are the best ones. It doesn't matter how big you are, it's if you have determination. go for it!!!

  6. you don't have to be anorexic skinny.

    It looks horrible onstage.

as long as you're not a boulder you should go for it!

  7. i am a bit tiered of seeing this question.

first off, it doesn't matter if you're skinny! if you have the talent, then just dance and show people.

second, muscles weighs more then fat. so if you are all muscle, like a dancer should be, then you are going to way quite a bit.

third, i know it's hard, but try to ignore what other people say/think. if someone calls you fat, or something else hurtful, look them up and down and you will DEFINATELY see something wrong with them. just walk away.

    hope this helps =)

  8. I don't know anything about ballet, but reading other responses I have to agree. As long as you have the determination to be one, that's what should matter. Ballerinas are rail thin, but by unhealthy means such as eating disorders. Personally, I think the ballerinas who are super skinny aren't attractive, and must live unhappy lives because all they do is worry about their weight, and beat themselves to death with ballet.

  9. some girls i no that dance are not skinny but they enjoy dancing and are improving. sure sometimes in fittings they have a hard time and costumes have to be altered but whatever! just becuase a steriotipical ballerina is skinny doenst mean u have to be. dont worry about what u look like anyone who sets their mind to being a ballerina will succeded some day.

  10. Weight has nothing to do with the issue of being a ballerina. I study ballet and pointe and I'm not thin.....but I'm not fat. I'm like 5 foot 7 and 170 pounds. As long as you can be disciplined in how you learn ballet and execute the proper moves and take it seriously, weight doesn't matter. I know you see those ballerina's in plays and stuff that are like stick thin, but keep in mind how many hours a day they dance and the intensity of their workouts. Those combinations could make anyone lose a lot of weight and look that thin.

  11. you should be lean but have long muscle and not bulky muscle.

not skin and bone.  lean muscle.
