i don't want to get into the argument about p****y, but i noticed something.

with all the time, money and effort going into catching but not preventing p****y, i noticed something that i though would be an obvious quick fix for preventing p****y.

with hard drive space getting bigger and bigger why not not greatly increase the file size of potential pirated files? you download at a certain bandwidth, meaning you don't have unlimited downloading speeds. the average file size of a blu-ray disc is about 23 gigs. i download at a max rate of 250kpbs, so without doing the math, that would take forever to download.........thus i would skip that file since it's not worth the 2 weeks it would take to download it. plus it would quickly fill up my drive after a dozen times.

the best compression i've seen from a 4 gig dvd is a 700mb avi. so even with that the file size would be 15 gigs.........i would also skip that.

so is that a feasible option to deter people instead of wasting all this money and effort to catch someone?

and how much compression could you do to a 23 gig movie without destroying the quality too much?
