To pass the LGT what do you have to do? I understand that the class is 40 hours and offered by the city, what kind of skills do i need to know? What is covered in the class? Is the class hard to pass?

  1. If you take a Red Cross lifeguarding class, you'll learn:

    * Surveillance skills to help you recognize and prevent injuries

    * Rescue skills - in the water and on land

    * First aid training and professional rescuer CPR

    * Professional lifeguard responsibilities like interacting with the public and addressing uncooperative patrons

You have to be a decent swimmer to take the class.  It's not like you have to be an Olympic champion though.

The requirements for one program are:

*Swim 300 yards continuously, using front crawl and breast stroke

*Swim 20 yards (front crawl or breast stroke), surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, and return with it to the surface, and swim back 20 yards.

    *Minimum age of 15

It's not that hard, especially if you're a good swimmer.
