Are there any homeopaths or naturopaths or medical doctors that can give advice on how to clense the lymphatic system. I have an upper respiratory virus and my lymphatic glands are swollen in my arm pit, chest and neck side. It's been 8 mths and I can't take it anymore. I need advice on how to clense my lymphatic system/glands. Thank you for your help.

  1. There is a method called Manual Lymph Drainage Massage. Some, but not all massage therapists have been trained in it. It's very effective for the condition you described. I have personally had it done and you can feel it working. They basically make your natural lymph system work faster. You might be able to find a therapist in your area at upledger.com, or you could call massage therapists and see if they have been trained to do it. Good luck and best wishes!

  2. Poke root is the major herb for you.

Botanical name is Phytolacca americana. It has a very low therapeutic dose and is taken in drops only.

Poke root tincture, obtained from a medical herbalist will support the lymphatic and immune systems and help reduce inflammation and infection of the lymph.

Start with 5 drops in water twice daily and work up to 7 drops twice daily. If you feel a little nauseous or have a poor appetite, simply drop back the dose.

Other herbs that are specific for your condition are:

Echinacea, take at least 5ml of a tincture 3 times daily until improved and then 5ml daily to support and maintain. Echinacea is a lymphatic drainer and supports white blood cells. It is anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial.

Garlic - fantastic for respiratory infections and is another lymphatic tonic. Have it uncooked cooking destroys the immune boosting properties. An easy way to take garlic is to peel and chop a clove, put it on a spoon and swallow with a large glass of water. 3 to 6 cloves daily or whatever you can manage.

Goldenseal - a strong antimicrobial herb and mucous membrane tonic. This is the 'antibiotic' of the herbal world but is not dangerous to the digestive system.

Avoid all sugar and sugary foods from your diet. Raised blood sugars deplete the immune system response and 'feed' infections.

Drink adequate water. Calendula tea heals and soothes tissues and is a wonderful lymphatic tonic.
