Take something at the onset. If you don't want prescription meds, take some over the counter migraine meds, like Excedrin Migraine.

Give yourself time to lie down in a dark, quiet room. Try to sleep. I know a cold cloth on my head helps me.

When I get migraines, I take Imitrex. It normally works for me. However, if you have them only once a year, you may not want to mess with prescription meds.
