What skills are required so that I can make professional looking website designs? Do I learn HTML or just use WYSIWYG editor? Or... is it worth to focus on Flash more? And I assume I need to get to grips with graphic program? If anyone can let me know, Cheers

  1. From past expierance I have used Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, it is an easy program to get to grips with. There is two views of which you create your website:

    Code view (html)

Design view (no knowledge of html) ;)

    Code and Design view

I also suggest researching other software which best suites you! =]

    Good luck.

  2. You need to learn html and css and alot of Photoshop.

    Flash is not that expansive.

Recommendions learning HTML AND CSS AND PHOTSHOP CS3.

And how do i know? I learn't all those languages and PHP and Mysql.

  3. Depends entirely on what type of site you are trying to produce.

If it's typical sales sites you are trying to create check out the free video course below. Even if you are doing something grander you will find invaluable tips in the videos.

Flash sites are all very well except anyone on dial up will have clicked off before they finish loading.

graphics are tricky but you can find a lot of templates that just need you to add text.

I use Gimp for graphics because it is good and it's free and will open Photoshop files.

Although you don't need html to design your site it pays to know the basics so you can edit pages easily

  4. Web development is very interdisciplinary, so you need to know a bit of everything.

Photoshop and HTML are essential though.

Javascript, PHP, etc are for adding functionality.

CSS and Flash can be are for making it look nicer.
