Question:

How To Hit Past A Double Block?

So at the moment im a junior playing PSAL volleyball for the defending champs. I was also made captain and thats a big honor, so now i get a lot of sets in the middle. I can usually bounce the ball over the court when my setter is on, but I feel more comfortable cutting left than hitting right. Usually thats fine until the double block comes along on the left side. My right side is weaker so hitting there i ussually get dug.

Is it even possible hitting past the double on the left ? If, so how?

  1. to answer your question, yes it is possible to go around a double block. you just swing straight, but turn your wrist out so the ball has more of a cut. you could also try going in at an angle. what i did when i played middle was i jumped before the setter set the ball. i have so much hang time, that i was waiting in the air for the set, and the block couldn't get up fast enough. so i hit over them. also, try swinging right over and over again to start off the match, then when the block starts to read that, go left. do this back and forth until the blockers don't know which way you're going. i found it fun to frustrate blockers this way. one last thing, when you go up to hit, aim for the corners where the 10 foot line meets the side line.

    good luck with middle.

  3. you can't really hit through a double block, even if you destroy the ball when you hit.. you may get lucky a few times but if you have a decent block they will stop you. i'm also a middle hitter and from experience i can say that the only real way to beat a double block is to cut left and right. switch it up though because if you always cut left, the block will adjust to the right to block you. if you try hitting over it, its an easy dig everytime. depending on how the defence is set up i either hit deep corners, or shorter corners. the first option is usually the best to use for  most teams..

    hope this helps :)

p.s. hitting past a double is DEFININTNLY possible.. i played at a national qualifier this weekend.. and the only way for me not to get blocked (i'm only 5'10 and these girls were HUGE) was to cut left because the left side hitter was the one setting up the block with the middle.

  4. You can hit over double block by going for a fake 1 and hit a 2, with the help from your setter on a "pre-arranged" play.

You don't always have to go "over" double block. Sometimes you can twist your wrist sideway and hit the ball and let it fly left or right off the blocker, or flip your wrist and let the ball go up into the ceiling from the blocking hands. From what you described you have enough power to do that.

There was an old saying, "spiking over your blockers only makes you feel more vertical, spiking off your blockers could make you feel smarter and more satisfied." Some defenders could get confused regarding whether to block as they feel like they are lending you a hand to get you a point.

    Hope this helps.

  5. i am a captain of my team as well. i have been playing for two years and i have gotten really good obviously. If the blockers are lined up on the line( meaning they are blocking from the antenna over) then hit it across court at 10 foot line. if they are blocking angle then you can hit it straight down the line. If you don't have a lot of time to decide on what to do..... use their arms to hit it. hit the ball on the outside blockers arm. 95% of the time it will bounce off of it and hit the antenna or go out of bounds

  6. If you are putting spin on your spikes - then the ball will automatically find it's own way through, up and over, etc etc.  Doing spike serves will tell you if you are putting that excessive spin onto it, by hitting the net.  It should even climb the net and go over, with the extra wrist action.

When the ball doesn't go over the net - you haven't got it going yet, keep on trying.

There are always places you can spike to - and even if you get blocked, because of the spin, the ball should work to your favour.  And when you are blocked, you should cover yourself - meaning, if the ball comes down on your side, pass it for another set..

Maybe coming late into your spike, is to your advantage in a double block? You should be able to see the exact situation you are going into, and decide how best to approach it? Like a full powerful spike, or be more precise where you are spiking to... hoping to catch the edge of the block, where it is more advantageous to you, instead of the centre.

  7. try practicing on your weak spots. but if you're too lazy then id say tip it over. me and my friend played volleyball for a long time and i totally block his *** all the time. but then he got smart. what he did was fake a spike then tip it over. or another thing you could do is hesitate. when you jump at a spike you hesitate in the air for "the right moment" then just smack it. most likely they would jump at the same time for a block. hesitate then smack it. of course though for that you need to get a lot of air in your jump. another way isto hit like straight down. like completely straight if you can. i hope i helped! :)

  8. Well i dont know a whole lot about hitting, but on my team we have a really tall middle hitter and she can hit over most double blocks, so maybe you could do that?

  9. that's easy just spike is !!!!!

  10. I've been playing middle for a few years now and i would often get double blocked because they know im a good hitter so they would try and shut me down. This doesn't have to be the case. You can still be productive with out killing the ball. If you are being double blocked that means that there is A LOT of room on the court. So depending on where you are being blocked there will be an nice open gap on the court. This is were a tip or "roll" comes in handy. so before you go up for the hit glance for an open spot on the court then just position the ball. no need for a ton of power.

or another way to "use the block" is to purposely hit the ball into their arms at a certain angle with as much power as possible and the ball will ricochet and go out of bounds( on your side of the court"
