How To Instal After Market Stereo In 87 Chevy Suburban With Factory Wires Missing?

I have recently received an 87 Chevy Sub. and I want to install my own radio, but someone has removed the original wiring to the radio, or so it seems. Can somebody tell me how to find out if the wires are gone permanently or what to do in the case that they have been removed and are long gone.

Thank you...

  1. theres a wire at the back of your radio, the red one is for positive connection and the black one is for the negative connection. the rest is for your speaker connection.

  2. It will require a little effort.... but it's do-able. You'll need a test light. First, forget about using the factory speaker wires. It will be much easier to use new wires. Mark the speaker wires as to where they originate from. Left front, right rear, etc, etc. Run those wires up to your dashboard. Then, use your test light to find a "hot wire" (wire that has power to it all the time) and a "accesory" wire (one that only has power to it when the ignition is on). The only thing left is a ground wire. The ground is always a solid black wire in automotive wiring. (don't confuse this with household wiring where black is always hot). So there it is.... four or more speaker wires, a hot wire, a accesory wire, and a ground wire. & wires and you'll save about $100 on labor by doing it yourself.
