I have a wired LAN , with two computer on it that i want to share files to/from, the thing is I'm running Windows XP Media Center 2005 on one(3.2Ghz CPU), and windows 2000 pro on another(200Mhz CPU), how can i share files between these two OS's?It would be a lot easier if they were both running the same OS, XP for example, but i'm stumped on how to share between two different OS's .. Thanks for your time and any help you can provide, Peace

  1. I think you want to make sure they're both in the same workgroup, turn on file sharing on both, and you may need to have an id on both computers.  Also make sure your firewalls allow the other ip in.

Take a look at the following sites for some help:

    http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/Hom...

    http://www.wellesley.edu/Computing/FileS...

The last one is a school site, but has good explanations.

  2. there are a number of options

If you just want to ship files from one computer to another set up a number of messenger accounts - same service say yahoo or msn

messenger - connect the two accounts and just send files

The connections is made over the internet files are transferred by the router internally at high speeds not over the internet

However I believe that you want to share files across your network

Its fairly simple . Its called file sharing:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-v...

    http://compnetworking.about.com/od/windo...

    two easiest way:

    1) with a program called network magic

the premium ( paid ) version will set up shared folders and printers in a flash

      http://www.networkmagic.com

    2) the other way simply is to set up a hamachi network

its zero config ( easy)  setup of a virtual private network ( secure)

    https://secure.logmein.com/products/hama...

      there is a free version

you can access your files from anywhere with internet access - even through a router easily

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamachi

summary if you want to do it easily

either install a paid version of network magic

or set up a free hamachi network
