How To Start My Own Buisness?

I want to start my own buisness, sewing curtains, quilts, chair covers.. ect, mostly home stuff. I'm not really sure about how to start. like getting jobs, clientel, getting the word out. i would be starting it out of my apartment so i am limited to what advertising i can do.

The first thing you need to to do is write a business plan in order to work out whether your idea is worth pursuing and what your costs and legal responsibilities will be. This will depend on which province you live in and how much business you think you will be able to do. Start with the following website and work your way through the topics:

If you go by the book and follow the rules from the start, you will have a much greater chance of success and you will be less likely to have tax issues later on. There may also be grants, business loans or tax advantages that you may be able to benefit from.

For more specific advice, you should talk with a small business advisor at your bank or 'Business Link'. NB. In my opinion, TD Canada Trust is the best bank for customer service and is more willing to help than most of the others.
