Question:

How Universities work in Europe?

i have a question about univ. in europe and germany

are the fees equal to what we pay here in north america? is it higher? lower? or there is not fee at all?

i heard they dont pay anything at all

but then how do you get in?

and how do you get in as a student from another country?

specificaly to germany

  1. Ok, I can give you some general answers for Germany:

    Fees are much, much lower than in the U.S.  Usually, each semester there's a fee of around 150 Euro that covers administration and sometimes public transport (depends on the university though).  Tuition is something that's just getting started - many universities now charge 500 Euro per semester (negligible compared to the U.S., although German students are protesting vehemently!)

    Getting in is tough.  German students take an exam when they graduate high school - known as the Abitur - and their grades determine the sort of school they can be admitted to.  As a foreign student, the best you can do is contact their international office and ask how to apply.  I imagine you need to have quite good grades to be accepted.
