Egypt died with Cleopatra , when Octavian defeted Mark Athony at Actuim and Cleopatra commited suicide Egypt became a province of Rome , and stayed that way untill Rome declined then Egypt was a poor province and declined into a fourth world power never to recover

The pharonic period ended following the fall of the Ptolemaic Pharao's (who were themselves decendants of alexander the great's general- Ptolemy) after the Roman invasion and the absorbtion into the Empire.  It was similar to the situation in Iraq, Egypt supplied Rome with most of it's grain. Rome could not afford Egypt to cut off that supply so, like the US with oil the Romans needed to secure that supply.
