I was wondering how well mobile install employees at Best Buy get paid? Ive always had a passion for car audio and was wondering if a job there would be worth it.

  1. years ago i applied at best buy and american.....they seemed to be more concerned about how fast you can do the job rather then the quality of work you can do. they were testing me on s***w and nut/bolt sizes for various models of dashes and aks Q's about how long do you think this should take. not a single Q about enclosure design, some about wiring....although i was bitter that i didn't get the job at either of them, knowing that i knew the same if not more than the guys that worked there, i'm kinda glad i didn't get it. if your truly passionate about car audio, don't wast your time with sores like these. the local shops is where the people work that are truly passionate about the job they do. over the years i have head hundreds of horror stories about how and big chain stor screwed up thier system. i have fixed many of them. in the long run you will be able to do your thing and have a chance to be creative, leanr fiberglassing, custom fabrications, and just to use you imagination. best buy will never allow you to do that because it will take too long and will not be cost effective. plus, many people that are serious about car audio don't usually go to these places anyways. they would rather put their $ in a local shop who is known for their knowlege and expertise. if you want a radio thrown in your dash, go to best buy. if you want a custom competition grade system with high end components, go to the local guys.

  2. Well it all depends on how good you are.  I donÊ»t work for Best Buy but I used to work at a car stereo shop.  The guys just starting out were making minimum wage.  You basically got paid to learn from the pros and to do all the little tasks.   Then as you got better, you made a percentage of the install or a flat fee depending on the difficulty of the job.

  3. $8 to $15 hrly on average....Depending on experience and I'd imagine in some areas of the U.S. it might even be higher....But I know in South Texas average is $12 to $13 hrly and some at $15 to $17 for the EXPERIENCE...such as electrical Knowledge from a school of some sort.

Its not something you can get rich at,but it would put food on the table and you would enjoy it....If you really want to make some CASH...goto Rockford Fosgates College for installers .They make serious cash.
