There should be no tolerance, none at all for any form of sexual harrassment, assault or rape in the military. It is a sad commentary on our military when a woman who wants to serve her country in the armed forces has to fear being attacked by her fellow soldiers more than being killed by the enemy.

s*x Assaults Against Women in Military 'Epidemic'

GAO Report: Sexual Assaults and Rapes in Military Under-Reported by Half

Mary Lauterbach, the mother of murdered pregnant Marine Maria Lauterbach told lawmakers on Capitol Hill that the military must change the way it deals with sexual assault to avoid more tragedies like her own.

Rep. Bruce Braley, whose congressional district includes Dubuque, Iowa, where yesterday they mourned the murder of Army 2nd Lt. Holley Wimuc, said this is not an isolated incident. Wimuc's husband, a Marine corporal, has been charged with her murder.

At Ft. Bragg in North Carolina, another pregnant soldier was killed more than a month ago and the father of her baby, Sgt. Edgar Patino, was arrested this week and charged with her murder.

"This is not an isolated thing we're talking about," Braley said.

While the military has come a long way since the days of the Tailhook scandal 15 years ago -- which is credited with creating a safer environment for female service members -- Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., said there remains an "epidemic of assault and rape against women in our military."

  1. I was raped in the military 26 years ago and I knew of 5 other girls on the base who had been raped or gang raped and the command never did anything about it and thats the way they like it. trust me nothing is ever going to change in the military about rape until they change boot camp and telling you its a mans world.

  2. The woman who serve this country should never have to worry about an assault coming from one of their own.  There should be zero tolerance.

  3. It's sad yes, and I really don't have any conclusion to this. I don't know what they are going to do about it because I've heard many stories but only knowing few of them actually being true. The only thing you can really do about it now as being a woman you know your risk.
