  1. I do grafting as a hobby here in N Dakota and for me the season is over. Because of our severe and unpredictable weather, native and heritage crab apples are my favorite rootstock. The problem is finding grafting material that buds and blooms at the same time. The solution is to refrigerate cuttings until they catch up. There are some good videos on YouTube but if you can get someone to teach you, you can learn more quickly. It's all quite simple, all you need are a sharp knife and a keen eye. Trees aren't the only thing grafted, I've even seen cucumbers grafted.  RScott
