  1. Temperature differences exist all over in nature.

    Salinity differences are usually only noted in the ocean.  They arise because fresh water enters the ocean in different amounts in different places diluting the salty sea water to different extents.

    The temperature and salinity differences are important in ocean circulation patterns.
