How Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo is expected to fare in 2013 season? – MotoGP Special
After having a spectacular 2012 MotoGP season, the reigning world champion is now looking forward to the 2013 season.
With his contract extended with Yamaha for another two seasons (2013 and 2014), Lorenzo is definitely going to put in his best efforts to claim yet another championship title for himself and his team.
Having finished the 2012 season on a winning note after claiming the title, Lorenzo will be in high spirits. All eyes will be on Lorenzo in the 2013 Qatar Grand Prix, the inaugural race of the season to be held on April 7, 2013. Lorenzo is expected to give
hard time to his competitors since his performance in the Qatar Grand Prix has constantly improved over the last 5 MotoGP seasons, until he finally won the Qatar Grand Prix in the last season. It remains to be seen if Lorenzo will be able to repeat history
or not.
A total of 7 victories and 3 second place finishes over his 5 year MotoGP career in French, Catalan and British Grand Prix are a clear prediction that one can expect outstanding results from Lorenzo in these three races. Victory at 2013 San Marino and Rimini's
Coast motorcycle Grand Prix seems a must for Lorenzo considering the fact that he finished 2nd in the first three season and 1st in the remaining two seasons of his MotoGP career and not to forget the Italian Grand Prix for which Lorenzo holds similar statistics.
Valentino Rossi’s return to Yamaha is likely to become a major driving and motivating factor for Lorenzo. He will not only be craving to repeat his 2012 performance but to further improve it in 2013.
“It's a big motivation to have Rossi back because I always like to have the best riders in my garage. Valentino is one of them,” Lorenzo told BBC in an interview.
Animosity has been a dominant feature in the relation of the Yamaha teammates until in 2010, it led to a wall being erected in the Yamaha garage. Things are likely to remain the same as already proclaimed by Masao Furusawa, Godfather of the Yamaha M1. With
Rossi again a teammate, Lorenzo will put in the extra effort both on and off the track which in turn will result to Lorenzo’s performance going up the scale.
Expectations are that in the 2013 season, Lorenzo will ride as Yamaha’s number one. Although the Spanish rider has negated the idea of his being the number one rider saying,
“It doesn’t matter to me what people say about a number one or number two rider. You have the same bike as the other rider and that is going to be the same in the next two years,” but still in light of his recent performance, Yamaha will prefer Lorenzo as
their number one rider.
Lorenzo is young, beaming with confidence and most importantly at the apex of his career. Undoubtedly, he is going to utilise all his energy and skills to cement his position at the top of the MotoGP ranking list in the next season as well with odds highly
in Lorenzo’s favour.
