  1. No idea

probably when a tournament is the first one

to give the highest amount of prize money

    or

to be the first tournament to let  amateurs to play

    or

be the first tennis tournament to play

    something like that

  2. They just are! These tournaments are old. I don't exactly know how a tournament becomes a GS, but here's something that might help you understand.

"The four Grand Slam tournaments are the most important tennis events of the year in terms of world ranking points, tradition, prize-money awarded, and public attention."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Slam_...

  3. I'm not sure, but I feel you are an angry spanish boy who would like to see Madrid's tournament become a Grand Slam (don't dream)

  4. i think the prize money and the grandness of the facilities are consequential to the status of being a GS tournament. It think it is more of significance, geographical (global) location and historical tradition that caused the tournaments to evolve into what it is now as Grand Slam (AO, FO, Wimby and US Open).  Even if Shanghai, Tokyo, Dubai or Madrid have all the money to build facilities and courts that these great sites have they still lack the majesty and richness of tradition in the world of tennis that these four majors possess. What body decides which tournament must be considered a GS is i don't know. I think it just happened like the first time the term was used in the tennis world when a New York Times columnist John Kieran described John Herbert Crawford as about to do a "grand slam" in the US Open after the 3 majors but which he failed to achieve. Thus, a Grand Slam is born, not made, so to speak.

  5. Grand slam means The winning of all the major or specified events, especially on a professional circuit......

  6. can a tournament accomodate many people?

how many courts could the tournament produce to become a grandslam?

does the sponsors have enough money to spend for the tournament(GS)?

the tournament should also be very old...

and the tournament should have the enough money to give to winners and its should have good facilities..
