  1.   keep your eye open for those war years with the large date over the building on the back, they are pure silver due to war time production needing the nickel.

  4. The 1941 nickel was made before they went to the silver composition for the war nickels 1942-1945.  It had a mintage of 203,265,000 so that explains why one can still find them in change. In fact one can actually put a set of Jefferson nickels together from change. It may take a long time and one may never find the 1950-D but it is only a $10 nickel. Your nickel has more of a historic value than a monetary one. On December 7th 1941 the U.S joined a world all ready at war and we entered World war II. You nickel could have been in some ladies pay envelope in 1942 or 1943 as she built a tank, airplane or liberty ship. To bad it can not tell you it's story. The coin is worth 5 cents in circulated grades but priceless with history.
