Hurricane Warning

by C.S. Scotkin

Seen from above by satellite,

by satellite she now is seen,

now is seen a cartwheel of white,

white angry clouds on TV screen.

On TV screen the warnings come,

warnings come, prepare today,

prepare today, be sure there’s some,

some pure water, for which I’ll pay.

Pay for gas, for charcoal, as well,

as well, the candles all are trimmed,

ready for darknesses, the spell,

the spell that’s cast when lights are dimmed.

Lights are dimmed now but by my will,

by my will all chores shall be done,

shall be done and much better still,

better still, packed, ready to run.

Ready to run to higher ground,

to higher ground if I must go,

if I must go I will be found,

be found with friends I love and know.

Worry not much, virtual friends,

virtual friends who are so dear,

who are so dear, and when this ends,

and when this ends will all be near.

  1. Ms Scotskin,

For you to have some of the biggest top contributors to the post give you praise is a testament to the power of your written prose! It takes skill and talent to use this phrasing in quatrain form and from this point on, I am speechless yet screaming WE'RE NOT WORTHY!! WE'RE NOT WORTHY!! EX-CEL-LENT!! EX-CEL-LENT!! WHEW, WHEW, WHEW...

  2. Reporting live from the Weather Channel

Channel 2 News is here too

too many reporters not enough water

water everywere but not in bottles!

Hunker down, flee, escape, whatever, be safe.  I like tornados better, over in a hurry then on with your life.

  3. Another one you've given us

    You've given us another one.

    One second, then your exodus

Your exodus it will be won...

Thanks for the fun and be well.

  4. Yes, the dawn of Dawn, and in the evening red sky we will proclaim her wisdom, Spitfire!

  5. CS, another wonderful partenza represa. I'm glad that you are going to leave if necessary.  Mother nature does not discriminate and is not one to be messed with.  Be safe and I will keep you in my prayers.

Addition:  You all make me happy and so proud and you are so very sweet and kind, but it is your talent that makes this form so lovely.  All of you are the true artists behind this form...I just got lucky.

  6. In spite of the excellent skill in penning your thoughts and the poetic prowess you exhibit; I actually find myself liking you as a person. Because of your comments to what others write and your ability to find time to comment to many of us; it's becoming apparent to me  that the normal caring person you are is where real beauty lies beyond the words you present.. Your skills have grown as much as any I've seen and your current poetic lines are evidence of  proof;  however you are more... and it's time someone told you... yes, really.

  7. Oh, how I love this form! It lends itself to such poetry.

Spyfyr is a genius; I have said it before and I know I will say it again.

  8. There you sit with hurricane warnings, and angry clouds massing high above...calmly writing poetry (are you sure you aren't British?  You have a splendid stiff upper lip)

I sit here in a home which doesn't suffer floods, monsoon rains, hurricanes, drought, earthquakes...(well, we've had two eensy-weensy earthquakes but nothing to write home about), snow drifts 10 feet high, attack by locusts, invaded by killer bees, in danger from the occasional rabid dog....Am I lucky, or what?

I hope it will soon be over....remind me again....what part of the USA should I avoid if I should ever be lucky enough to visit there?

    Well penned.
