Question:

How about powering electric cars with nuclear batteries?

Nuclear batteries are safe, generate a large quantity of power for a long time, and never have to be recharged. And this technology could be available soon.

Wouldn't this be a great idea to power electric cars?

  1. if they could be rigged to explode during an accident it would help Darwin do his thing. get the idiots off the road

  2. What kind of cleanup would be required after a car accident.  How much will it cost to provide the emergency workers with radiation suits?  What kinds of cancer should the occupants of the vehicles expect to get?

  3. I read about them in a Wikipedia article at one time. They used a vaguely similar technology with the Voyager space probes back in the 1970s to fuel the probes electrical systems. The nuclear batteries should keep the Voyager spacecraft on going til around 2020.

  4. My first reaction was that this was a horrible idea. But it looks as if they have their bases covered. The batteries that power Voyager weren't very powerful, and wouldn't be able to power an electric car. But if they manage to improve the technology, it just might make things interesting for the oil companies. Muahahahaha!
