There is absolutely no problem with touring around Barcelona on your own.  You have as much chance of meeting any problems as couples.  If you are going it alone I would recommend you tour the city in the open top bus and view it that way.  Once you have your bearings you can use the subway as the quickest way from a to b.   If you haven't been before your in for a surprise as Barcelona is once of the most vibrant and cultural centres of Europe.  I suggest you drink in the atmosphere of an evening in Las Ramblas and go and see the fountains - they are a must.  Try looking on virgins travelfinder website for a honest view on hotels to stay and things to see.  Finally, look up! The architecture is fantastic.

Not sure what you mean.  Are you asking if it's safe to travel alone in Barcelona?  If so, I would say yes.  It's not the safest city in the world, but it's by far the most dangerous either.  Spain, as a whole, is a low-crime country.
