When I was in Cusco there were ton of internet cafes and they offered phone service too

I think I paid 70 cents an hour for internet..

also there is internet cafes in many of the smaller towns

the  avenida wilson  (lima) its  1 of the  best  places to buy a new 1 or for to build urself., also  softwares (cheap)

also  in  the  centros comerciales  u can  find  new ones. lika  ripley  or  saga, etc

Every neighbourhood has bars/cafes/restaurants which have computers for tourists or for people whithout computers. However, it is very strange for people in Lima not to have a computer at home as well as phones. Lima is quite a cosmopolitan city and quite a high tech place. However, there's a different story in rural areas. If you go to provinces, the only computers could be the ones in your hotel (if it's a 3 star hotel or higher).

But you wont have any trouble in Lima.

It depends on what part of Peru you're going to.  The large cities and tourist areas are not lacking in internet cafes and public phones.  Rural areas, as is probably expected, have limited access.

One thing that was pleasantly surprising to me was that while I was in Peru - and in Colombia - I could actually receive phone calls on my Verizon Wireless cell phone to which I had done nothing to update for international travel.  There was a number my brother found for me that allowed me to dial out, but I forget it now.  You could probably find it on the website if you use Verizon.

It was sort of wild to have an unexpected chat with my mom on the descent from Sachsayhuaman.

Peru could be one of the countries with the most accesible phones & computers in all Latin America. It is a great business here to put what we call INTERNET CABINS, they could be found in the most godforsaken towns in Peru. Phones aren't an exception and you can can find a LOCUTORIO (locutorium) anywhere.

More so than in the states, you can find cabinas de internet all over the place and can buy a prepago phone for about 60 bucks

what really upsets me is when people assume there arent many things like computers and phones in peru.. they are very accessible there..its not exactly like in the US where everybody has a computer but we do have computers and phones. mostly everybody has a phone and computer.

As many people have mentioned Internet cafes are very common in all towns except the really small ones up on the altiplano.  A friend and I were riding in a VW bus between towns and in the bus with us were 6 Peruvian ladies taking their wares to the marketplace. A cell phone started ringing and everyone reached into their bags and hauled out a cell phone to see if it was their phone that was ringing.  I have a feeling that the Peruvian's like their cell phones almost as much as the Finn's  like their phones.
