How accessible is Rome from Florence?

I am going to be in Florence in April. I am thinking of going to Rome as well.

How do I get from Florence to Rome easily? Is there a train system? How long will it take? How much will it cost?

You'll have a great time in Italy.

Florence is on the central Rome-Milan train line.  It takes under 2 hours to reach Rome by train.  You take the train from Florence's main train station (you can't miss it!), and it'll take you to Termini Station in Rome.  The price of a ticket can range from $25-40 dollars, depending upon the type of train and class.  If you leave in the early morning and prebook your train ticket, you can usually pay less.

If you don't like trains, you could always take a bus.  In Italy, they call them 'pullman' - those are the big comfortable buses for long journeys.  By bus, it'll probably take 3-4 hours, maybe longer.  I've never done it so I can't be sure.  

Train is best, and train travel in Italy is very inexpensive.  You could easily visit Rome for the day and return to Florence in the evening with very little fuss.

Yea there's a train system. I forgot the name and where but it's really easy. Just ask someone. It takes a few hours but it'll be worth it. Italy is a GREAT GREAT country and Rome kicks A$$! If you never been before you're gonna love it.

Yes, there are trains from Florence to Rome.  I don't remember how much it costs, but this is the best way to travel between these two cities.  Having a car complicates everything because parking is difficult and expensive.

Rome is easy to get to from Florence on the train. The Eurostar trains take an hour and a half for 36.10 euro 2nd class. If there are seats available at the Amica fare, the Eurostar to Rome is 28.90 euro. The regional trains are slower (3 and a half hr) and cheaper (15.80 2nd class). You can buy tickets from a machine in the station (there's an English language option for the interface), at the ticket window in the station, or online.
