How accurate are home pregnancy tests if you peed shortly before you took them?

I've been reading up on how it's reccomended that you use your morning urine or at least urine that's been in your bladder for at least 4 hours for the best results of the build up of the hormone it detects, however, there was nothing on the box or instructions recommending that.

I used a good brand, the clear blue digital test. Took 2 tests maybe about an hour or 2 after I peed out of ignorance, both came out negative. The odds of me being pregnant though are a million to one so I'm inclined to belive it.

We only had s*x once about 2 weeks before I was supposed to get my period (yeah, fertile time...), with a spermicide condom... and he even pulled out (long story). I got my period a little early, yes I got my period. The PMS was severe though. I was concerned about it because I've been reading about horror stories of girls getting their period and still being pregnant. Those stories usually include a lighter flow though, my flow was very normal. I could have almost set a watch to it from previous months, same amount and same length of days as it always is, just a day or so early.

I took the test a day after it ended. I know I'm being totally rediculous, but I've been under a lot of stress lately (for other reasons) and there's that nagging voice in the back of my head that questions if that test could have been fudged because I didn't wait longer to take it.

Seriously, I know I'm being silly. But really though, would it have picked it up if there was any hormone? It says it's extremely sensitive and I'd imagine that in that amount of time there would be enough of that hormone to be picked up in tests regardless of when I was peed, we're talking 20 days after intercourse is when I took this test.

  1. One thing people dont realize is that the Clearblue Easy DIGITAL tests, test for a higher amt of hormone than the one line, two line type tests. It measures for 50miu of HCG in your urine which for people like me, would mean a negative result. I have had two pregnancies so far and with both my HCG levels were slow in rising. The "one line, two line" tests (not the digital) test for at least 25miu of HCG in the urine and it still took me 10 days after my period was due to get a positive.

Yes its sensitive, but thats relative. Its not the most sensitive type out there and if you are slowing in rising with HCG or very early in pregnancy, its going to show up as negative. My advice, from my experience, would be to only test with the "one line, two line" test types. First Response and Answer brands are the most sensitive ones on the market and would be there best in detecting a very early pregnancy.

That being said, you did have a normal period so you probably are not pregnant but if you need reassurance, go get one of the more sensitive tests. I believe even the ones at the Dollar store are pretty sensitive too. Store Brands are pretty good too so a cheapo Walmart one will do.

I dont think you are pregnant though but for next time, if there is another "whoops!" moment, remember about the tests.

  2. i think you're fine.

  3. Their still pretty acurate. its easier to get a false negative then to get a false positive.

If you are unsure of the results. just try the next morning.
