How accurate is a level II ultrasound in terms of determining gender?

I have just begun my 18th week. I am going to try to get an ultrasound as soon as possible (especially to calm my nerves about elevated AFP levels).

As long as those legs are wide open and they get a good angle and view they will be able to tell but no matter what level the ultrasound if those legs are closed they won't be able to see nothing.

It doesn't matter which type of ultrasound is used, it depends on the tech.  I would think that a tech. using a more "technical" ultrasound would be able to know what the gender is.  I have 3 boys and 1 girl.  The boys were obvious, my daughter was obvious as well because Of these three white lines.  If you are prego with a girl, the ultrasound tech, should be able to pick up 3 distinctive "white" lines on ultrasound in the baby's pelvic region.

It will be pretty darn accurate. And dont worry, a LOT of people have elevated afp levels but everything turns out ok. I hope yours does too =)

pretty accurate.  i can even tell before they tell me.  their genitals are pretty unmistakable(i've had a boy & a girl so i've seen both).  as long as baby is in the right position (mine always moved around a lot so that helped), you should be good to go!

I was 18 weeks with my daughter very accurate if they can get a good shot. I am going in friday I will be 18 weeks 2 days hoping for open leg vibes.

u should be able to tell then but a level 2 means they are looking for other things besides gender, so focus on that. if the baby usually like to be jumping around at a certain time because of something u ate or drank or a a certain time do the scan then easier to see if the baby spreads its legs

well you would only be a little of 4 months into your pregnancy.It used to be you could not tell until like 5 or 6 months but with these new 3D images it is possible to get a good picture of the genitals.Good Luck!
