How accurate is the dream sheet in the AIR FORCE?

I am wondering how likely someone is to be listed where they put down on there dream sheet? Also, if you list ONLY International locations, will you most likely go overseas?

  1. The dream sheet really only applies to openings which the Air Force has at the time.  It is in no way reliable to assume you will get any of the bases you list.  That said, if you list all overseas you will probably get overseas, simply because those spots are (surprisingly) hard to fill.

I signed up for overseas out of tech school, and ended up stationed at Yokota AB, Japan.  Loved it!  They actually come to tech school classes from time to time looking for volunteers.  You sign your name on the list, and you are going.

  2. I listed NO overseas assignments and they gave me overseas.  They call it a dream sheet for a reason.

  3. Accurate and Dream sheet - two terms that should never be used in the same sentence - at least not while being serious.

  4. They call it a dream sheet for a reason.

The biggest mistake, most people make, is they put down bases, they cannot be assigned to.

Because the base either does not have their job or it does not have their job, in their skill level.

If you list any bases overseas, you are volunteering for a overseas assignment, ANYWHERE , not just the bases you listed.

    Some things to know:

    1. You have to be at your current duty station for 2 1/2 years, before they will even consider you for reassignment.

    2. People who volunteer for extended long tours, go to the top of the list.  But that means you will have to reenlist, to accept the duty assignment, if you are already at a base stateside.

    3. If your listing bases for assignment out of Tech School.

You need to make sure those bases are authorized people in the 3 skill level, for your AFSC.

They do use dream sheets when making assignments.

You just have to have an opening, for your skill level and afsc, at the base you want to go to, at the time, you are up for assignment.

They are not going to assign anyone, to a base, that is not authorized your skill level.

They are not going to assign someone to a base, that does not have an opening in the manning chart for that afsc.

IE: If a base is authorized 5 slots in your skill level and afsc and already has 5 people, then you will never get orders there.

But it does work, I listed Guam on my dream sheet, when Guam opened up for my AFSC, and recieved orders there several weeks later.
