I'm not trying to lose weight or anything (im skinny enough already *laughs*) but i'm a huge sushi fanatic, and I happily eat it 1-2 (sometimes 3) times a week. I was just wondering if that benefits my health in any way. In other words, how healthy is sushi and what is in it that makes it healthy?

I wouldn't recommend people to eat it all the time.

  2. Sushi contains fish, right?  So you're getting your essential omega-3 fatty acids, which contain a whole host of benefits.

  3. you arent eating cheese fries or something. thats a benefit. :D

  4. Like everything, eat it in moderation and part of a health balanced diet. And yes it is lovely

  5. Well , you like it don't you, there you go!!!!!!

  6. I do not think sushi is healthy in any way whatsoever.  First, fish is raw, has mercury, parasites and other chemicals.

Not enough veggies for any nutrition, though seaweed does have some good benifits, but the wraps are so small.

I love sushi too, and only eat fish, no other meats.

Further, white rice is unhealthy, bleached, no nutrition to speak of...

Try Shrimp tempura.  Not healthy either, but delicious. You can at  cheat and make sushi at home and save tons of $$$$. Books on making sushi, or internet,

    OR...

Layer rice, cover with you favorite sushi items such as tobikko caviar, tuna, shrimp, avocado, whatever are your favorite items....  Check out Chinese and Japanese markets for sushi grade raw fish if you desire....

Buy wasabi and pink ginger.  Also some Japanese markets sell frozen caviar, the tobbiko, or capelin....very inexpensive.

  7. It all depends on what goes into it. The fish is very healthy as long as comes from clean waters and you follow mercury guidelines.

Veggies such as avocado, cucumbers, carrots etc are also great for you.

The aspects of sushi that can be unhealthy depending on the amounts, are soy sauce ( high sodium) and ingredients that have been fried in tempura batter. Obviously, taking in to much mercury is not good- certain types of tuna can be high in mercury. However, not all types of fish used in sushi are high in mercury, due to their diet. It just takes a little research to know how much of certain types of fish is healthy to eat.

And, as the saying goes: All things in moderation...
