I am connected to my wireless network, but when I click network and sharing center, then view status and details the description of the router I am connected to says Atheros AR5007EG. How can this be when I own a Linksys and my laptop is supposedly connected to it. I would like to know how to fix it because my internet has become extremely slow. The router I am running off of is not mine. (I think the neighbor's open connection is ran on a Atheros router.) Please help me!

  1. Calm down.  Just disconnect from that router/network and then find your network (by your network's name) and connect to your network.

  2. Hi, You need to quickly go to your own routers ip address and using the settings page there set the router to secured and go through the different options it presents like firewall etc.

the important point for you is to set the security and at least a 128 bit password, this will secure your router and prevent access to your network by snoopers.

If you know your neighbour you may want to explain to them that they are providing a free and easy access to the world htat they are paying for and also that their own data is insecure.

    Goo Luck.

  3. atheros ar5007eg is the name of your network adapter, (the network card in your computer) what you are seeing is the name of your network adapter instead of seeing the name of your network. I have the same network card in my acer laptop. The cause for your internet being slow could be caused from a bad signal or a problem with your network adapter. Try updating the drivers through device manager on your computer.

Please ignore what the other people have said, if they would have searched for the term atheros ar5007eg in a search engine it would have showed that was a network adapter.

  4. Just relax Disconnect from the neighbor open connection. Refresh the network setting on your computer this should find your network SSID and Network Key.

If you think someone is using your network, you need to reset the network key password and change SSID. Hackers will try to gain access again.
