  1. It will depend on the type of plant that you have the picture of.  If you have an idea about there the plant comes from or is used for, then as a first attempt, you may want to try the library, and see if they have reference books covering the type of plant that you have (e.g. trees, garden plants, vegetables, mosses, grasses, ferns and so on).

    You could try your local yellow pages, and see if there is a local nursery which specialises in the same type of plant.  Or as a previous respondent answered, check a local flower shop, which may help you narrow down some possibilities.

      


  2. Trying to match a picture to a name can be difficult.  The database below has all the plants in the US -- the problem is that you will need to search by name.  Your best option may be to buy a flower guide for your area, and start with that.

    You can also search for your state's herbarium online.
