  1. THE OLYMPIC GAMES

The ancient Olympic Games were primarily a part of a religious festival in honor of Zeus, the father of the Greek gods and goddesses.

  2. First of all Zeus is the king, not the father of the Olympians, although he is the father of Dionysus, and was the one who castrated Kronos, and sent his s***n into the sea, giving birth to Aphrodite. Anyway, the Olympics mainly consisted of running and throwing, like a modern day track meet. They dedicated this to Zeus, but it was not as if they were holding a mass solely to honor the Greek god of thunder. The lighting of the torch was part of the way they honored him.

    Hope this helped!
