How and what do i need to hook my surround sound up to my computer?

  1. Here's your answer -

    If you have a half-decent receiver it will have a SPDIF input on it. Check and make sure you have one. That's for digital surround sound.

    Next, hop over to your favourite electronics retailers and buy a sound card with SPDIF out.

    If you have a desktop, you want a PCI sound card, if you have a notebook, look into the Creative X-Fi Notebook card. It goes in the Expresscard 54 slot on lots of laptops.

    Once you have those things, check out www.monoprice.com to pick up a cheap cable for your setup. Don't bother buying a Monster cable for a million dollars.

    That's about it... configuring your card is a different question altogether, but if you go the Sound Blaster route it wont be a problem, those things are great.
