I think they should be planted sometime in the fall, but when exactly please?

Also, how deep and far apart in the ground do I plant the bulbs? I really want this to work out as none of my gardens have ever grown! Please help, I really love tulips and I want to succeed at this so bad!

  1. If you live in a warm area, plant them in Oct. If you live where it's colder sooner, plant them now if it's getting cool enough.  The thing to remember is that if you plant them when it's warm, they will start growing now instead of in the spring, and then they will get zapped by the cold winter.  They do need enough cold weather because bulbs must go through a cold spell in order to bloom.  Here in the Mid South we have even planted as late as Dec and they have done fine.  You want to do it before your ground freezes if your area gets that cold.

If you love tulips, check out the many new varieties online and have some fun with it.  There are even some that turn colors as they bloom!

Plant them about 6 to 7 inches down and 6 inches or so apart.

Some people have problems with critters eating the bulbs. For this you can get chicken wire and place over the bulbs before you cover them with dirt. Also, if you have deer in your area, they love them!  Place some hellebores (Lenten rose) around you tulips because the deer don't eat these, Hellebores bloom Christmas to March, and look really nice among the tulips. If you don't want to do that, I would suggest being ready with some Liquid Fence (harmless and natural) to spray on them as they emerge.

You will like the how-to video listed in the resource. It has exact details.

    Good Luck,
