One book that I think more early childhood people should read is "Ability Development from Age Zero" by Suzuki. He developed a very popular and successful method of teaching the violin (and now many instruments) to young children starting at around three. His principles were a lot more far reaching, and he truly believed that you could teach children anything if the proper methods were used. I think it would be an eye opening book for you whether you're a parent or a teacher. It has been for me.
