i have a friend who has family who work in the medical field and on charitable visits to 3rd world contries and other medical visits she adopted 2 children. 1 from Brazil and another from Bangladesh. She is trying desperately to find her daughters birth parents. The adoption ppl who arranged this are no longer contactable. As the eldest daughter from Brazil is now 20 and the younger from Bangladesh is now 18. Does anybody know of any organisation or anything that will put her in the right direction.

  1. Start with the US State Department. Before those babies left that country, their adoptions were finalized and all of the paperwork sent to the US embassy or consulate handling the naturalization paperwork. They have an original copy of the birth certificate, original copy of the adoption decree, original copies of the petitions for naturalization, and signed statements by everyone involved. You find those documents and you've got a place to start. They're probably filed in the National Archives and Records Administration center covering the state where the parents lived when the adoptions were done, but contact the State Department and verify that it's actually where they archived those records.
