Before WW2 the majority of Australian migrants had a British background and any other migrants that entered the country had to satisfy strict racist criteria which could in fact single out just about any one that did not get along with the department of immigration. With the end of the war Australia needed workers and skills for it's own expansion and the thousands of displaced persons in Europe proved a fertile place for recruitment. the white Australia policy was finally abandoned when and with Australians involvement in the Vietnam fiasco Australia now accepts people from all races and from all over the World.
