  1. I just grab whatever ball I touch and you put a ball in your pocket because you have two chances to serve and should always have two ready.

  2. For me, I had my favourite balls during a tennis match.  All tennis balls look the same at the beginning, but they are not created equal....at least in my mind.   In every match, I had found my favourite ball.  Maybe it had more or less fuzz on it, or maybe I was serving better with it.  Lots of factors.

I guess players put one of the balls in their pocket so they don't have to wait for the boys to supply them.  It takes a bit longer....  or during practice, especially serving practice, when there are not ball girls or boys around, players get used to pocketing the balls, so they don't want to change their

rhythm.  No, and it's not uncomfortable when the ball is in the pocket.

  3. You just pick a ball generally on the bounce before you serve.  I doubt there's actually any difference.  You put one in your pocket in case you fault on the serve, you have another ball.  It's just a habit, think about all the years those guys play before turning pro.  It's not uncomfortable, you just get used to it.

  4. PLayers will try and pick the newest ball out of the balls handed to them by the ball boys. They will checki it for the fuzz generally. The ball with the most fuzz is the newest ball and so it means that the ball will most likely travel faster through the air. That would obviously be the best thing for them on their serve. Nowadays, the players hit the balls so hard, they often become worn out incredibly quickly.

Some players, like Goran Ivanesavic, for example, would pick balls that he had just served an ace with. He was pretty funny that way. He would just motion the ball boy closest to the ball he'd just served to hand the ball back to him.

Some do it simply out of habit or superstition like Nadal.

The balls are put in the pocket just to make it easier and quicker to lauch into a second serve in case the first serve doesn't go through. Or else, the players will have to pick out another ball out of a couple that they'd like for their second serve. Big waste of time. And its not really that uncomfortable. It just is nothing.

  5. They choose the newest one, the one that has the fuzz and the one that looks maybe the 'shiniest', because if they're new, it means they bounce better. This is important especially regarding the serve.

Players put one ball in their pocket to save time, just in case you serve a fault on your first serve, then you can directly use the ball in your pocket instead of waiting for the ballboy to give you another ball.

  6. I will try to explain this though you need to have benn playing tennis for sa while to fully understand. I'm assuming that your talking about the pros on tv and why they ask for three balls and use maybe two of them. The pros are searching for the best tennis balls for each point before they go to serve. It sounds like their making to much out of it but yes it does make a differnce. If you were to play tennis every week and hit the ball and a medium pace in about a week or two that ball will start to lose its bounce and will start to become what tennis players call a ''dead ball''. But the pros are hitting the tennis ball almost as hard as they can most of the time. Their tennis ball become deader alot quicker and the pros know this. so in the beginning of a math you may notice that the pros dont care as much what ball they get, but as they get into the match they will start checking the balls before every point unitll it is time for judges to open up new tennis ball again.

As for the pocket thing everybody does it cause everybody is taught that way, its easier, and its part of their routine. these plsyers have been doing the same routine before a serve for probaly 10 years. If you watch Federer he signals the ball boy to give him three tennis balls. He picks two of them and combs is hair back behind his ear out of habit and routine from his longer hair days. Bounces the ball and serves. Every player has a routine and since they were taught to put a spare ball in their pocket incase they miss theor first serve they will always do it. Also having another ball helps with rythum of the point. If the player is thinking about the point ahead concentraits about hitting the ball in and misses. Then the player wants the tennis ball as soon as posible to keep his rythum going. Even if he hits his first serve in its not uncomfortable. The player will deffinantly know that somthing is in his/her pocket but its not really a henderance because of the loser clothing. Its not like their wearing jeans on the court.

Well I hope I answered your questions. they are very hard questions to answer if you have not had that kind of experiance in tennis before. I my self coach tennis and am a avid tennis player. I've played against some of the pros and have some friends in the tour.

    Hope I helped.  =)

  7. They just pick the newest ball that will bounce the best. And literally they don`t really care of the new ball because usually all the balls are new.
