Natural regions are called Physical Regions.  They transcend man-made boundaries, called political boundaries, such as State borders.  Physical Regions help us study human demographics.  The reason for population location and density, types of employment, local economies and natural resources.

    Climate, vegetation and soils can be a factor in determining where an industry locates, or where someone decides to live.  Examples of Physical Regions in the U.S:

    The Pacific Northwest region (wet and cool) is known for fishing.

    The Southwest (hot and dry) is known for cattle ranching.

    The South (hot and humid) is known for forestry products.

    The Great Plains (cool and windy) is known for wheat and other grains.

    The Midwest (cold winters, hot summers) for corn and hogs

    The Northeast (temperate climate) for finance.

    New England (cold and wet, mild summers) is known for fishing.

    Each region has it's own distinct physiology.
