  1. There is no removal done at this point.

    There is some studies being done now regarding this problem

Hormones, of course depending on many variables, can be removed through biological processes, advanced oxidation, coagulation (chemical means), and filtration.  Because there are no known problems with the levels seen in effluents, they are not routinely monitored and studies on the exact mechanisms of removal are just now being studied on many fronts (long before any recent news stories). Any further treatment will probably require additional or more advanced steps and will add to the cost the public pays for wastewater treatment.  There are many bigger problems such as non-USA,EU treatment which does not exist at all in 95% of the areas of the world.
